On March 23, the United States Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held a hearing on family caregiver support through the VA Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers. I\ Since its onset, eligibility for the Program has been expanded, then narrowed numerous times. Under the current review plan, many advocates and enrollees would be dismissed from the program. It is estimated that this month, as many as 6,000 people could find out they are no longer eligible to receive caretaker support. The VA is expected to announce that it will at least temporarily stop dismissing veterans from this program.
