The WHO announced an emergency meeting next week to decide whether to classify the Monkeypox outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern. More than 39 countries have reported over 1,600 confirmed cases to the WHO, in addition to 1,500 suspected cases. Although Monkeypox is endemic to only seven countries, these countries have reported 72 deaths from the virus, and the WHO is working to verify a potential monkeypox-related death in Brazil. A determination of public health emergency of international concern is the UN's highest warning and would increase international coordination to respond to the disease.
