Chicago Physician Charged in Scheme to Defraud Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois Related to Mole Removal Procedures

On July 12, Chicago physician Dr. John A. Greager II was charged with submitting false claims to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois and to Medicare. The government alleges that Dr. Greager fraudulently obtained around $4.1 million by submitting false claims primarily related to mole removal procedures that he did not perform or that were medically unnecessary. The government additionally alleges that Dr. Greager intentionally falsified his medical records to support the false claims.  Dr. Greager faces up to ten years in prison for this single count of health care fraud. Arraignment of Dr. Greager has not been scheduled.
