According to a recent article posted in Health Payer Intelligence, states that have Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) are in a better position to address social determinants of health (SDOH) than states without Managed Medicaid programs. One reason for this is that states with Managed Medicaid often require those MCO’s bidding on an RFP for Medicaid business in a state to explain how they are going to address and screen members for social determinants of health needs. Further, many of the Managed Medicaid states require bidders to also address cultural competency and health equity concerns.
