The Biden Administration is purchasing one billion at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests to give to Americans for free. Starting January 19, every household are able to order tests online at COVIDTests.gov, and tests will typically ship within 7-12 days of ordering. The initial program will limit each residential address to four tests. This follows the White House’s January 10 announcement, in which it stated that it will now require private insurance companies to cover at-home COVID-19 tests. On December 29, the FDA approved for emergency use authorization (EUA) two new over-the-counter at-home COVID tests, one manufactured by SD Biosensor and distributed by Roche and the other manufactured by Siemens. And on January 11, the FDA issued a statement warning consumers to stop using LuSys Laboratories COVID-19 Tests, as the tests have shown a “high risk” of false-positive or false-negative results. The LuSys Laboratories tests have not been authorized, cleared, or approved by the FDA for distribution or use in the United States.
