CDC Expands Use of COVID-19 Vaccine for Children

On December 9, the CDC expanded its guidance on the use of the bivalent COVID-19 vaccine to include children aged 6 months through 5 years old. The bivalent vaccine includes a component of the original COVID-19 virus strain, as well a component of the omicron variant to provide better protection against COVID-19 as the virus is evolving. Eligible children who have received only two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination are able to receive a bivalent vaccination as their third dose. These updated bivalent vaccines are available through Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna.
