New ABA “Parenthood and Childcare Giver Study” Survey to Launch in Mid-September

Beginning in mid-September, the American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Women in the Profession (the Commission) will launch a survey for a Parenthood and Childcare Giver Study.  The goal of the study is to evaluate how widespread caregiver bias and the motherhood penalty are and their impact on the retention and advancement of women lawyers. The Commission will gather information about women lawyers’ continued primary responsibility for caregiving and its impact on their careers, with attention to intersectional factors like race and ethnicity.  Goals include educating and guiding legal employers and state and local bar associations on how to combat or address adverse impacts.
