OIG Study Confirms Critical Role of Telehealth During the First Year of the Pandemic

The HHS OIG analyzed Medicare claims data from the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic to determine the number and types of telehealth services used by Medicare beneficiaries. Data showed that more than 28 million beneficiaries used telehealth for 12 percent of services, most commonly for office visits and significantly for behavioral health services. Beneficiaries' increased use of telehealth during the pandemic demonstrates the long-term potential of telehealth to increase access to health care for beneficiaries.
