Tampa General Hospital, the Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, Proton Therapy Partners, and Florida Urology Partners announced a collaboration to build a new, freestanding proton therapy center located in Tampa Bay and offering advanced cancer treatments to residents along the west coast of Florida. Previously Tampa Bay was the only major Florida market without a proton therapy center. Operating as Cancer Institute at Tampa General, the center is scheduled to break ground in the second quarter of 2022.
