Study Finds Long-Term Care Facilities Accounted for 31% of all COVID-19 Deaths

On October 1, the Kaiser Family Foundation published a study finding that staff and residents of long-term care facilities accounted for 31% of all COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. as of June 30, 2021; nursing home COVID-19 deaths in August 2021 reached the highest level since February 2021; and nursing home cases between July and August 2021 increased more rapidly than cases in the community. The extra dose of the COVID-10 vaccine available to many residents of long-term care settings, in addition to the staff vaccination mandate for nursing homes, will hopefully reverse this trend.
