The DOJ announced on October 12 that Monroe, Louisiana physician Llewelyn Simon has agreed to pay $640,000 to settle allegations that he referred home health patients in return for payments. Simon was the medical director for a now defunct home healthcare agency. The government alleged that he received monthly fees in excess of fair market value for the services he provided, and that the excess fees were compensation for referrals of patients in violation of the Anti-Kickback Statute. The investigation and resolution of the case was a coordinated effort between federal agencies.
