On October 7, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced the award of nearly $16 million through the Adaptive Sports Grant program. This money was awarded to 102 national and community groups, 90 that offer adaptive sports and 12 that offer equine therapy. It is estimated these grants will support more than 13,500 disabled Veterans by providing opportunities for Veterans to improve their independence, well-being, and quality of life through adaptive sports. The program extends the reach of the VA into communities where Veterans live and helps improve both physical and mental health through outdoor recreation.. These grants also benefit Olympic and Paralympic governing bodies.
