On July 1, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed the medical conscience clause that allows physicians, hospitals, and insurers to refuse to offer or pay for a medical service if it violates their moral or religious beliefs. This clause is included in Ohio’s $74.1 billion 2022-2023 budget. The Ohio Hospital Association, Ohio Children’s Hospital Association, Ohio State Medical Association and Ohio Association of Health Plans issued a joint statement opposing the provision during the state’s budget process.
