On July 19, the Departments of Labor, HHS, and Treasury issued an implementation guidance FAQ related to coverage for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for individuals at high risk of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) acquisition. According to the guidance, non-grandfathered plans and issuers must cover PrEP consistent with the United States Preventative Services Task Force recommendation without cost sharing when provided in-network for plan years beginning on or after June 30, 2020. The FAQs concern the scope of the requisite no cost sharing coverage for this particular service. Affected plans and issuers are allowed sixty days to implement the guidance.
