Loss of Trust in US Healthcare System During Pandemic

A recent survey by the ABIM Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Chicago, found that nearly 30% of physicians surveyed stated their trust in the U.S. healthcare system and organizational leadership decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic. These physicians, however, reported high levels of trust for other physicians (94%), nurses (88%), and physicians outside of their practices (85%). The survey also showed a disconnect between physician and patient perspectives. For example, 90% of physicians believed patients can easily schedule appointments, whereas only 76% of patients stated they could easily schedule appointments.
