On February 6, cyber attackers used ransomware to gain access to patient files CaptureRx had received from healthcare providers. Protected health information from more than thirty thousand patients from at least five health systems were exposed by the attack. In the notice of the data incident released by CaptureRx, the company noted that the compromised files contained first name, last name, date of birth, and prescription information. This attack comes in the context of vast increase in ransomware attacks since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
