Maryland Bill to Require Mental Health Facilities to Report Sexual Abuse and Harassment

Maryland Delegate  Geraldine Valentino-Smith (D-23A) sponsored bill HB881 which will require all mental health facilities to report complaints of sexual abuse and sexual harassment within 24-hours of receiving a complaint to the Behavioral Health Administration, the Office of Health Care Quality, or if for a minor, Child Protective Services. The bill also requires the Behavioral Health Administration to develop and implement policies and procedures for responding to complaints of sexual abuse and harassment. The bill has passed both chambers and is now headed to the Governor Hogan’s desk.
