Kaiser Permanente Settles Race Discrimination Lawsuits for $18.9 Million

Kaiser Permanente is settling two class action lawsuits alleging race discrimination of Black and Latino employees. In the first settlement announced on April 22, Kaiser will pay $11.5 million to approximately 2,225 Black employees in administrative support and consulting positions to settle allegations that these Black employees were underpaid and under-promoted. The second settlement, which has not yet been filed, will distribute $7.4 million to Hispanic employees to settle similar allegations. In addition to the monetary distributions, Kaiser will also create programs to ensure career advancement and fair and equitable pay practices and hire an internal compliance officer to oversee these settlement programs.
