In March, healthcare entitles and their business associates suffered from sixty-two data breaches involving 500 or more records. These breaches involved the exposure or improper disclosure of over 2.9 million health care records, an 136.% increase over February. Forty-three breaches involved hacking and/or IT incidents. More than 98% of the breached records were the result of hacking. The most commonly compromised areas involved network servers due to ransomware and malware attacks. Email accounts came in second due to phishing emails.
