The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 Waives VA Healthcare Copayments Through September

On March 11, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) was signed. A key portion of the bill requires the VA to write off all copayments for VA-provided health care through September 2021. A temporary suspension on these copayments has been in place since April 2020, and this bill extends the copayment suspension through September. This action means all copayments for VA-provided medical care from April 6, 2020 through September 30, 2021 will be waived or repaid to veterans who have already made those payments during that time frame. In total, ARPA contains up to $1 billion to cover copayments and reimburse veterans for prior copayments.
