Inconsistent direction by the FDA regarding the dosage of Pfizer’s vaccine may cause confusion within many healthcare facilities. Previous guidance allowed for the use of every possible 0.3 ml dose available per vial. This could equal up to seven doses for a given vial of the vaccine. However, due to concerns regarding the vaccine’s lack of preservative, the FDA has issued new guidance. Vials are now limited to 6 doses per diluted vial, and any remaining solution that does not constitute a full dose is to be discarded.
