This week, the VA approved twelve VA medical centers to be the new sites of Fisher Houses, which provide free, short-term accommodations that allow veterans and their loved ones to remain close during medical care. In 2019 and 2020, more than 47,000 families received free, temporary housing at VA Fisher Houses, saving those families more than $32 million in lodging expenses. Acting VA Secretary Dat Tran indicated that Fisher Houses help to enhance VA services and resources by providing Veterans, their families and caregivers a comforting space to reside during potentially stressful times of recovery and rehabilitation. Since its inception in 1990, the Fisher House program has grown to include 91 homes on 25 military installations and 41 VA medical centers.
