The Litigation and Risk Management Interest Group is proud to announce a series of Hot Topics & Networking virtual events. These events will spotlight a hot healthcare litigation or risk management topic and members of the interest group working in the space.
This first session spotlights three outstanding interest group members and their work in digital contact tracing. The speakers will briefly discuss their experience in this new area of law before answering your questions. Attendees will also be invited to share their own experiences.
Rochelle Sandell: Rochelle is an attorney and a registered nurse located in Irvine, California. She works for the Los Angeles County Department of Health as a Health Facilities Evaluator Nurse, where she performs federal licensure surveys and investigates healthcare facility complaints in the post-acute space. During the pandemic, Rochelle has served as a contact tracer for Los Angeles County.
Ashley Thomas: Ashley is an Associate with Morris, Manning, & Martin in Washington, D.C. where she assists clients in managing cybersecurity, privacy, information security, and vendor risks. During the pandemic, Ashley has advised clients on federal and state data privacy and security laws, as well as eHealth and cybersecurity issues, related to contact tracing and other COVID-19 activities. Ashley serves as the Vice Chair of Publications for the Health Law Section’s eHealth, Privacy and Security Interest Group and Chair of the Web & Technology Committee.
Matthew Buchbinder: Matthew is an attorney with North, Pursell, & Ramos in Nashville, Tennessee, where he counsels healthcare providers in the area of information privacy, including incident investigation and breach response management, regulatory compliance, privacy and security policy review and drafting, risk management, and operational matters. During the pandemic, Matthew has advised physician groups on privacy and security matters related to COVID-19
Matthew & Ashley also recently authored an article in The Health Lawyer (October 2020) entitled, “Digital Contact Tracing in the European Union - Best Practices for United States Legislators and Regulators?” which discusses the privacy challenges with digital contact tracing in the U.S.
IG Chair Stefan Chacon will also provide an update on the Litigation & Risk Management Interest Group and its work.
