UnitedHealth is sending at-risk Medicare Advantage beneficiaries flu kits as concerns grow about the “twindemic” of COVID-19 and flu season. Subscribers were able to request the flu kits beginning in September, and 120,000 beneficiaries have requested the kits. The kits contain Tamiflu, a thermometer, and a COVID-19 PCR diagnostic test. Beneficiaries requesting the kit were required to confirm that they would not use the Tamiflu or take the PCR test until they were directed to by a physician during a telemedicine appointment. Over five million Medicare beneficiaries are enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans offered by UnitedHealth.
