Patent Suit for COVID Treatment Used to Treat President

Allele Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Allele), a small biotech company, is suing Regeneron, the company that produced an emerging Covid-19 treatment given to President Trump. An additional lawsuit has been filed against Pfizer and BioNTech SE. All three companies are working to develop Covid-19 vaccines and treatments. The suit alleges that the companies used a fluorescent protein developed and patented by Allele without authorization. According to the complaints, the protein is used to track the body’s response to antibodies and is crucial to the development of the companies’ antibody treatments. Allele is seeking royalties for the use of the protein.
