OCR Resolution of Religious Discrimination Complaints

On October 20, HHS OCR announced the resolution of two religious discrimination complaints related to clergy access to patients for religious purposes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Within the announcement, OCR highlighted CMS Guidance on adequate and lawful access to chaplains or clergy in hospital visitations during the COVID-19 pandemic, and noted updates to institution policies allowing patients to exercise their religion by receiving clergy visitation at any reasonable time so long as the services are provided without disruption to care.
