On October 6, CMS released updated guidance on the requirements and enforcement process for reporting COVID-19 data elements by hospitals. The purpose of reporting is for CMS to ensure hospitals and CAHs are appropriately tracking, responding to, and mitigating the spread and impact for COVID-19. The guidance was effective immediately and requires daily reporting of 25 data elements, weekly reporting of seven data elements, and optional reporting of an additional six data elements. Through November 18, non-compliance will result in multiple notifications being sent out. After November 18, the provider will be at risk of CMS terminating its Medicare provider agreement.
