OB-GYN Practice Sues Prisma Health for Health Care Quality and Working Conditions

South Carolina OB-GYN Associates (OB-GYN Associates) countersued Prisma Health (Prisma), based in Columbia, South Carolina, over deteriorating care quality and persistent safety issues at the Prisma’s Baptist Hospital. OB-GYN Associates claims that the system did not provide them with a reasonably adequate hospital in which they could practice safely. OB-GYN Associates further allege that Prisma failed to properly maintain the hospital’s facilities, hired inexperienced nurses, and suffered from chronic short-staffing. The lawsuit comes after Prisma filed suit against OB-GYN Associates for breaking their ten-year lease with Prisma after two years and moved in October 2019 to Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. Prisma disputes OB-GYN Associates claims, citing that Baptist Hospital had received high marks from a recent Joint Commission survey.
