The DOJ is seeking more than $11 billion in criminal and civil penalties from Purdue Pharma. According to a recent filing in Purdue’s bankruptcy case, prosecutors are seeking $6.2 billion in criminal penalties and $5 billion for civil compensation. In addition, 49 states, the District of Columbia, and several territories are collectively seeking about $2.2 trillion from Purdue. In states such as New York and California, claims totaled more than $192 billion and $165 billion, respectively. Oklahoma is the only state that is not a part of these claims, as they settled with Purdue last year.
