Sacklers could get a "Win" After All

The deadline for filing claims in Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy proceeding is July 30.  The bankruptcy court has granted injunctions halting hundreds of proceedings which charge the Sackler family with their involvement in the opioid epidemic, and the family could benefit greatly from the expansive power’s bankruptcy courts have exercised in complex cases. The Sackler family is proposing to be shielded from all OxyContin lawsuits, and granting them a full liability release from all charges. There is  precedent that has shown in a similar case where the manufacturer of the Dalkon Shield contraceptive filed for bankruptcy protection, the individual family member owners, who had not individually filed for bankruptcy in light of the charges against them, were discharged from all liability.
