On July 14, a physician assistant who co-owned and operated a pain management clinic in Traverse City, Michigan, settled allegations that he violated the Controlled Substances Act by writing prescriptions for large quantities of opioids “without a legitimate medical purpose and outside of the usual course or professional practice.” As part of the settlement, the physician assistant agreed to surrender his DEA registration, to never reapply for DEA registration in the future, and to pay a penalty of $50,000.
