On June 17, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a virtual full committee hearing during which the committee considered whether certain changes to telehealth policies should be made permanent or, at a minimum, extended during the COVID-19 pandemic. Two policies that received strong advocacy for permanence were: 1) the removal of limitations on originating sites, and 2) the expansion of the types of providers that could be reimbursed for virtual visits under the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Other policy measures discussed were the further expansion of broadband deployment, reimbursement for telephone visits, and payment parity.
