California Budget Revisions Significantly Impact Medi-Cal Program

California Governor Gavin Newsom submitted his 2020-21 May budget revisions to the California Legislature on May 14. The revised budget was approximately $19 billion less than the $222 billion January proposal due to the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The new budget proposal makes significant changes to California’s Medi-Cal program. While the revisions don’t make changes to current Medi-Cal eligibility, the State is no longer planning to increase rates or expand certain programs as proposed in the January budget proposal. There are other significant cuts to the program, and more information on the update can be found here.
