This week, the VA is sending letters to more than one million veterans, detailing how to check if they are eligible for reimbursement from certain medical bills. Late last year, the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims ruled that the VA must reimburse veterans for expenses related to emergency visits at medical centers outside of the VA system. The Court rejected the VA’s appeal of this class action. Affected claims for emergency room visits will be processed over the next several months, and the VA expects to pay out between $1.8 and $6.5 billion in reimbursements.
