Families First Coronavirus Response Act

On March 16, the House of Representatives passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (HR 6201) on a bipartisan basis. The Senate is considering the bill this week and the President is expected to sign it into law. Division F of the bill requires health plans to cover Food and Drug Administration approved COVID-19 testing without cost sharing or medical management requirements during the current emergency (as defined by Social Security Act ยง 1135(g)).  Many health plans have already implemented this level of coverage for FDA approved COVID-19 testing voluntarily.  Extending coverage without cost sharing or medical management requirements to treatment of the COVID-19 illness is not included in the bill. A recent survey of nearly 600 individual and family health insurance enrollees shows that more than two thirds (69%) feel they lack a basic understanding of how testing and treatment of coronavirus (COVID-19) would be covered by their health insurance plan.
