Alaska Expands Access to Mental Health

The Alaska Legislature passed a bill expanding mental health services in an effort to increase accessibility to care. Senate Bill 120 will increase access to services to vulnerable patients, and the Legislature is hopeful that it will also assist with retaining psychiatrists in the field. This bill will provide “an extension of authority to prescribe emergency psychotropic medications” to physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses without consent to patients in court-ordered inpatient care during a crisis situation.
