The 2020 edition of ONC’s Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA) contains resources to support the sharing of information in four new categories of data related to social determinants of health: drug use, food insecurity, housing insecurity, and transportation insecurity. The ISA is designed to provide clarity, consistency, and predictability for the public on the standards and implementation specifications that could be used for clinical health IT purposes. According to the Deputy National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, these factors can greatly impact overall health, and ensuring that this information is known and captured in clinical systems is important.
