On February 13, the Massachusetts Senate unanimously approved a bill addressing barriers to mental health treatment. The bill, known as the Mental Health ABC Act, is now on its way to the Massachusetts House of Representatives for review and approval. Under this bill, “state offices would have new enforcement powers, insurers would need to file regular compliance reports, and more in an attempt to guarantee that patients have the same access to mental health care as they do to physical health care.” Supporters of this bill believe it will remove barriers currently blocking access to mental health treatment in Massachusetts.
