Representative Greg Walden (R-Ore.), Ranking Member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, reopened investigations of “three drug companies that make opioids over their role in the epidemic of overdose deaths.” Ranking Member Walden, along with Representatives Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) and Morgan Griffith (R-Va.), sent letters tol, Purdue Pharma, Insys Therapeutics, and Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals on January 14 requesting more information about what they could have done earlier to combat the opioid crisis. The Purdue Pharma letter specifically referred to evidence showing that the companies had knowledge stemming back to 1997 that the drug was being abused.
