On January 6, HHS and CMS announced that Brad Smith will serve as the Director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, in addition to serving as Senior Advisor to HHS Secretary Alex Azar. Smith is expected to continue the work of his predecessor, Adam Boehler, in accelerating the transition to value-based care. A native Tennessean, Harvard graduate, and Rhodes Scholar, Smith most recently served as Chief Operating Officer of Anthem’s Diversified Business Group. Prior to Anthem, Smith co-founded and served as CEO of Aspire Health, an in-home care company.
