Several states are troubled by the terms of the recent $48 million proposed settlement between opioid drug manufacturers and the states. New Hampshire, Ohio, and West Virginia have voiced concerns that the payments would be stretched over a number of years, while the money is needed for services now. Under the proposal, companies have offered to pay $22.25 billion in cash over 18 years while services and drugs to treat addiction valued at $26 billion would be provided over the coming decade.
