According to USA Today, a bill was filed in the Florida Legislature that would allow public school students to cite a need for a mental health day as their excuse to be absent from school. HB 315 “would allow one mental health day per semester as an excused absence. . . a parental note would be required for the missed day not to be counted as a pattern of truancy, which could lead to sanctions.” Oregon passed a similar bill in July, authorizing five mental health days per year.
