On July 12, the Legal Services for Homeless Veterans Act (H.R. 3749) was introduced by California Representative Jimmy Panetta. The bill, which has garnered bipartisan support, seeks to target inequities in access to legal services among homeless veterans. Without legal support, many veterans are unable to access their full benefits, which contributes to veteran homelessness. The legislation would promote broader access to legal aid by providing grants to organizations that offer pro bono legal services to veterans who are currently homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. The bill is currently in committee; however, the representatives co-sponsoring the legislation have high hopes for its success.
