Healthcare Providers Should Not Work When They Are Sick to Protect Patients

The Journal of Antimicrobial Resistance & Infection Control published a study which demonstrated that 60% of healthcare professionals feel obligated to work while they are sick. The motivations for working while sick included staffing issues, avoiding creating more work for colleagues, and various employment concerns.  Awareness of these motivations may help inform and formulate interventions to reduce instances of working while sick and improve patient safety.
