DEA Streamlines Official Order Form for Schedule I and II Controlled Substances

Effective October 30, the DEA is amending its regulations to implement a new single-sheet format for DEA Form 222 in a move intended to simplify the ordering process for schedule I and II controlled substances. As opposed to sending the original triplicate DEA Form 222 to separate recipients, under the new rule, a purchaser must make a copy of the original DEA Form 222 for its records and then submit the original to the supplier. The copy retained by the purchaser may be in paper or electronic form. The new rule provides for a two-year transition period, during which a purchaser may use the existing triplicate version of the forms.
