Defendants Seek to Remove Judge from Opioid Trials

Defendants in the multi-jurisdiction opioid trial in Ohio seek to remove Judge Polster from the proceedings, alleging bias against the opioid distributors. According to the New York Times, the defendants allege that Judge Polster has gone to great lengths to push for settlement and “showed a bias toward such a resolution and against defendants’ position.” Many experts feel that the timing is a bit precarious, with one Fordham law professor noting that the request followed “a recent flurry of pretrial decisions against the defendants.”
