On September 20th, 2019, Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey announced an $8 million commitment to assist county jails with opioid addiction. In a press release, Murphy announced that the investment would provide “medication-assisted treatment for individuals with opioid addiction who are justice-involved while in jail and post-release”. This builds upon the active initiative that brings medication-assisted treatment to state prisons. A pilot program is currently underway in Atlantic County.
