Trial Begins for Purported Opioid Kingpin

On August 12th, 2019, trial began for Aaron Shamo in Utah. Shamo, 29, is accused of “selling opioids laced with fentanyl imported from China that was pressed into fake pills and sold through online black markets.” According to the indictment, the laced pills were sold online through Pharma-Master, a dark web marketplace for sale and purchase of opioids. Shamo has been charged with and in being tried for 13 felony counts, including drug importation, money laundering, and continuing criminal enterprise.  A conviction on the count of continuing criminal enterprise could result in life in prison.
