DOJ Announces Settlement with Millcreek Community Hospital

On July 15, 2019, the DOJ announced that Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania agreed to pay $2,451,000 and enter a 5-year corporate integrity agreement to resolve FCA violations. The government alleged that Millcreek billed Medicare and Medicaid for medically unnecessary inpatient rehabilitation services. Although there was no determination of liability, the government alleged that between July 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017, Millcreek not only admitted unqualified patients into its inpatient rehabilitation unit, but also did not adequately document that the services provided were medically necessary and reasonable.
