Possible Progress on Opioid Settlement

The New York Times reports that a proposal for a comprehensive national opioid settlement with the pharmaceutical industry is under review by Judge Dan Aaron Polster of Federal District Court in Cleveland, who is presiding over a collection of nearly 2,000 federal opioids cases.  Under the plan, every city, town, and county in the US could receive a payout in a settlement with the largest manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of prescription opioids.  The plan could expand the number of municipalities and counties eligible for compensation in the federal litigation from 1,650 to about 24,500 and open the way for a comprehensive national opioid settlement with the pharmaceutical industry.
